Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (Penguin Modern Classics)

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - James Joyce Closer to a 1.75 Stars to be honest.

James Joyce, I heard you hated this so much that you actually threw the original draft into the fire. My response: perhaps it should have stayed there. But regardless I did enjoy various parts, such as the descriptions of characters and the beach part (now that was really something, beautiful and my favourite scene in this whole book), but other than that, it felt like the book was trying too hard with its words. Of course I'm aware that the style reflects the mindset of our protagonist Stephan Deladus. But I felt disconnected with his voice and I got lost and grew tired and frustrated to the point I actually fell asleep or was very close to..... no, actually i really did fall asleep

Sorry Joyce, I acknowledge your talent and your other works, but this one just wasn't for me unfortunately. :/
